The Sports Museum and Hall of Fame aims to promote sport by;

• Establishing a Sports museum to record and preserve historical information and memorabilia, and develop exhibitions and activities.

• Establishing a Sports Hall of Fame to recognise and acclaim Ballarat's outstanding sports persons.

The main requirements identified were:

• Ownership or long term tenure of an adequate area of high quality floor space.
• Access to curatorial expertise
• Community support in providing historical information and items of memorabilia.
• User friendly computer touch screen able to display written histories, photos and videos clips.

Strong interest and support by the City of Ballarat, Sovereign Hill, ISSC Australia, Win TV and the University of Ballarat has seen these key requirements achieved.

The support of the City of Ballarat has been of key importance so much so that the Sports Museum and Hall of Fame is now a permanent part of the City of Ballarat.
